- The digital displacement pump is new technology, the only truly digitally controlled hydraulic pump for off-highway machinery. It is a radial piston pump with a dedicated microcontroller that activates each piston individually and provides very fast and accurate responses to system demands, resulting in superior machine control. By only using the pistons that are needed to meet the load, the pump provides very high efficiency. (1:45)
- Hydraulic excavators themselves are responsible for roughly 200 million tons of CO2 or the equivalent of 16 billion gallons of diesel fuel every single year. Over 90% of emissions come from large (over 10 tons) excavators. (3:10)
- The hydraulic excavators of today are only about 30% efficient, with about 70% of energy used being wasted in the form of excess heat. Digital displacement technologies like Danfoss’ Dextreme systems can increase efficiency by up to 50%. (4:30)
- There is a hesitation among excavator manufacturers to adopt new technologies like digital displacement technology. OEMs and end users need to see the value. Danfoss is working with OEMs to increase their knowledge of these new systems. (9:50)
- With increasing regulations on emissions and the push toward electrification, end users and OEMs will need to implement digital displacement technology to remain competitive. (11:30)
- Cost and lack of charging infrastructure are also barriers to adoption. Government programs and incentives can help address these barriers. (13:00)
